Sowing San Antonio: February

Hmm I might need to think of a new name for this series since we are now sowing San Antonio and Austin now... I digress.

February is a great time to plant in your garden! Although it certainly doesn't feel like February lately and our confused red bud is already budding. My daughter explains the weather like this, "It instantly turns to Summer when the groundhog doesn't see his shadow. When can we go to Barton Springs?"

If you want to get out to your garden and enjoy our nice (Winter?) weather you can plant:
artichoke crowns,
asparagus crowns,
beets,
kale,
collards,
chard,
cool season greens,
spinach,
lettuce,
mustard greens,
potatoes
and turnips.

Our planting guide says you can also plant brassica transplants (IE; broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts...) but personally we think its too late. They will grow but they just don't taste as good. It gets hot too soon and they can end up spicy and/or bitter. What are you planting this month in your garden?
