Butterfly Border

We put in a butterfly border on one edge of our veggie garden.

The border incorporates the three plants we have seen the most caterpillars on: rue, parsley and dill.

We are also using it to make a visual edge to try to keep our dog from trampling through the bed. In addition, they are all attractive herbs. Stacking functions! Permaculture alert!

Spicy Time

We needed to pick all our peppers before the freeze the other night. Then we had 8 million peppers. What to do? What to do? We borrowed a dehydrator and dried them all up. Usually we use dried peppers to make something we deem spicy salt. Which, as the name suggests, is just dried peppers ground up with salt. It makes everything taste better. EVERYTHING!
Do you have a dehydrator you love? We are now taking recommendations.

We also pickled some Christmas Relish. Here's how. Take mostly bell peppers, and some hot peppers, chop them up into little pieces, sprinkle them with salt and let them sit in the fridge for a few hours. Then chop up some cucumbers and add them. Next, make a brine. We boil 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar with garlic and some salt. Strain out the garlic and then add the brine to your pepper mix. Then pressure can it up. Christmas Relish!
