This is a whole stacked row of baby broccoli. It was intentionally over planted so we can weed out the weak ones and keep only the stronger ones as they grow in. Broccoli sprouts make for great micro-greens and tasty salad toppers- so the weaklings will not go to waste.
No matter the number of blogs that I read from the south or Australia, no matter that I know you live in Texas, I'm always weirdly shocked for a second when I see little seedlings which are to me out of season. If I put in broccoli seed right now it would never grow. I just picked the first of my fall broccoli yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice to see. I've had a really difficult time getting my broccoli started, between the birds, rats, and sowbugs all the seedlings just get munched into oblivion. My fourth attempt is germinating now...
ReplyDeletedaphne- you just have to remember our winter lasts about 2 weeks. then it will all make sense. = )
