The monster artichoke is bearing more fruit. Three little ones have formed around the big guy. I had to look up how to cook artichokes last night. Steam them for 25-45 minutes then dip the outside leaves in butter or mayo(?). Then cut out the inside feather leaves and cook the heart.
Cool pic! How hard is it to grow artichokes? I am intrigued....
ReplyDeleteWe have two growing in different parts of the yard. The one pictured is huge and growing well. Its in full sun and we composted the area a lot before it was planted. The one in the other area is doing not so great- its in a bit more shade and we didn't compost much, if at all.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I like how you can get more than one off the plant.
ReplyDeleteI looooooove artichokes. Just make sure you save enough melted butter to dip the heart in after you finish all the leaves. Yum!!!! Did you start these from seeds?
ReplyDeleteA nice vinaigrette works too but if you choose the mayo, make sure its homemade mayo. Don't try miracle whip or something
ReplyDeleteyeah mayo seems a weird suggestion to me. vinaigrette or butter sounds good.
ReplyDeleteif you want to get fancy, ghee is an interesting option. i just bought some myself today. (it's clarified butter)
